AltaML Co-CEO Nicole Janssen appointed as a member of the Mitacs Board of Directors


Edmonton, AB, November 29, 2021—AltaML, a leading applied AI studio, is pleased to announce that Nicole Janssen, Co-CEO, has been welcomed to the Mitacs Board of Directors, following her appointment at the board’s annual general meeting on September 14, 2021. Wendy Luther, President and CEO of Halifax Partnership, was also appointed as a new board member, and Philippe Gervais, Principal, Navigator Ltd. was appointed Board Chair. Mitacs is a national, not-for-profit organization that fosters growth and innovation in Canada. Working with 78 university partners and 77 college, CÉGEP and polytechnic partners, 6,000 companies, and both federal and provincial governments, Mitacs builds partnerships that support industrial and social innovation in Canada. Mitacs offers a range of programs to support paid internships for post-secondary students with Canadian organizations, as well as funding for international opportunities.

She is recognized as a leader in helping Canadian business leaders understand the importance of ethical AI. “Through Mitacs, AltaML has been able to mentor many outstanding individuals emerging from our post-secondaries; to date we have hosted 20 post-secondary interns, many of them for multiple terms, and several were subsequently hired into our business,” said Nicole. “Mitacs is creating multiplicative impact by linking industry and post-secondary institutions, and I am thrilled to join the board to help shape its direction as an enabler of Canadian innovation.”
