AltaML Co-CEO Nicole Janssen named a 2021 AWE Award Recipient

Edmonton, October 7, 2021 – AltaML, a leading Canadian applied artificial intelligence (AI) studio, is extremely proud to announce that Nicole Janssen, Co-CEO, has been selected as a recipient of one of the 2021 Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Awards. Since 2012, the annual AWE Awards have recognized more than 800 women entrepreneurs, and this year’s winners join a prestigious list of Alberta entrepreneurs who are making a difference in their communities and around the world.

The awards, made possible by presenting sponsor ATB, recognize the efforts of women entrepreneurs in four categories, and the 2021 AWE Award recipients were recognized for their unstoppable contributions to the Alberta business community in a special online ceremony. “These exceptional, diverse, resilient women are not only changing the face of Alberta business; they are changing our entire economy,” says Marcela Mandeville, CEO, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs. “From providing jobs to building community, these women have made unbelievable contributions to our province.”

Nicole Janssen was recognized with an Emerging Entrepreneur Award which is awarded to a female entrepreneur who has built a strong, scalable business foundation and has achieved early success with strong market potential. Nicole co-founded AltaML with Cory Janssen in 2018 and is driven by passion and purpose to grow the business. “I love what we are doing because we are building something that improves businesses, that improves human lives, that improves so many different things” says Nicole. “We are going to build a billion dollar business and we are going to keep it here in Canada. We aren’t building a business to sell it; we want to create jobs and create wealth in Canada. We also want AltaML to be a leader in showcasing that Canada is a global leader in responsible AI.”

“It’s a huge honour to be recognized,” continues Nicole. “As an entrepreneur, you are so excited to see your vision coming to fruition but at the same time you are shouldering a burden of wanting to create the best possible place to work and an exceptional future for your team. Every time that a female is recognized in a leadership role, it inspires other young women and girls to see what opportunity there is in the world for them.”

The other 2021 AWE Award recipients are Bobbie Racette, Founder and CEO of Virtual Gurus Inc. (Indigenous Entrepreneur Award), Chloe Dusser, Founder of Wee Wild Ones (Upsurge Entrepreneur Award) and Jennifer Carlson, CEO and Co-Founder of Baby Gourmet (Celebration of Achievement Award).

“Supporting business owners is at the core of what ATB does,” says Nikki Briggs, Head of Women in Business, ATB Financial. “Congratulations to all the recipients for all they do to improve life in Alberta.”
